Your first consultation: what happens, what you leave with, in Paris 16th

A first gynecology (gynaecology) consultation takes five minutes to prepare and follows a simple order: we talk first, we examine afterwards, and everything is explained along the way. Before you come

Booking and getting ready

Appointments are booked on Doctolib, choosing “Première consultation de gynécologie” — the first gynecology consultation — with the physician of your choice, or by telephone through the secretariat. The practice sees patients by appointment only.

Your carte Vitale, up to date — it allows third-party payment for the health insurance portion and automatic transmission of the claim.
Your prescriptions and recent results — blood tests, ultrasound scans, mammogram, operative reports: bring them, even older ones.
A list of your current treatments — contraception, supplements and anything prescribed by another physician included.
Your vaccination record — useful when a vaccination is being considered.
Your dates and your questions — the date of your last period, the date of your last smear test, and the questions you want to ask, written down beforehand.

A first gynecology consultation lasts about 20 minutes.

You may come accompanied: one person only attends the examination. Dr Gatri first sees you on your own, then invites the person accompanying you in.

How it unfolds

The conversation first, the examination after

The conversation, fully dressed — the reason for your visit, your personal and family history, your contraception, your periods, your plans. This is the part that shapes everything else.
The examination, with your agreement — it comes after the conversation, and every step is explained before it is done: examination of the vulva, speculum examination to see the cervix, the screening smear test when it is due, then a vaginal examination to assess the uterus and the ovaries. It is adapted to your age, your history and your apprehension, and it stops when you ask.
The ultrasound, at the same visit — when it is useful, the pelvic ultrasound is performed during the consultation, at the practice, on the GE Voluson Expert 22 system: the images are displayed on the room's screen and the result is explained to you immediately.
Prescriptions and explanations — tests, treatment, contraception: what is prescribed is explained to you, with what is expected from it and what to watch for.
What you take away — the printed report of every examination performed at the practice — ultrasound, colposcopy, hysteroscopy — is given to you, together with the official information sheet for the procedure whenever one exists.

Medical photographs are taken when they are useful to your care, only with your consent; they are covered by medical confidentiality.

Before a procedure

The consultation that precedes surgery or an intimate procedure

When the consultation concerns gynecological surgery or a procedure in intimate surgery, it follows the same order and takes the extra time the framework requires.

Your request is heard — what troubles you, since when, what you expect: the request is listened to and examined without judgment.
The information is complete — the procedure, its aftercare, its risks and its alternatives, including the treatments the practice offers without surgery.
The information sheet is given to you — the sheet of the French College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (CNGOF) for that procedure.
The quotation is sent by e-mail — detailed, to be read carefully and accepted by electronic signature; no clinic booking is made before your signature is received.
The reflection period — systematic, and at least fifteen days for a procedure performed for aesthetic reasons, as French law requires.
A consultation before the procedure — when it is useful, at the practice or by video consultation, it confirms the decision once the reflection period has passed, answers the questions still open and prepares the date; for surgery at the Clinique de la Muette, an anesthesia (anaesthesia) consultation is scheduled there.

Two points

Consulting in English, consulting urgently

Consultations take place in French or in English, as you prefer: Dr Gatri and Dr Mahdhi-Basli both see patients in English, and the pages of this site exist in both languages.

The practice sees gynecological emergencies by appointment: the “Urgence gynécologique” reason exists on Doctolib, and the secretariat tells you what Dr Gatri's schedule allows; the practice's own patients are given priority. An emergency that cannot wait, or that occurs at night, is a matter for the emergency services (call 15): it is not what the practice is for.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, our answers

Can I come during my period?

Yes. The conversation, the examination and the ultrasound are all possible during your period. The screening smear test is taken outside your period: if that is the reason for your visit, call the secretariat to move the appointment by a few days.

Do I need to fast?

No, there is no particular preparation: eat and drink as usual. For a pelvic ultrasound through the abdomen, a full bladder gives better images; the secretariat tells you when that applies as you book.

Can a teenager consult?

Yes. A first consultation is booked when a question arises — painful periods, contraception, intimate discomfort — often in adolescence or at the start of sexual life. It begins with a conversation, and the examination is adapted to age and to the request. Medical confidentiality applies, and French law gives a minor confidential access to contraception.

Is a smear test done at the first consultation?

It is taken when it is due, during the same consultation. Cervical cancer screening starts at twenty-five and follows a calendar, so it is not repeated at every visit. The physician tells you where you stand and when the next one falls due.

How much does a first consultation cost?

The fee for the first gynecology consultation is listed in the fee schedule, published on this site and displayed at the practice, as is the fee for every procedure performed there. Third-party payment is accepted for the health insurance portion, and not for complementary insurance.

What if the physician is running late?

The exact length of a consultation cannot be predicted: some require unplanned samples or technical procedures, and obstetrics is inherently unpredictable — the physician may be called away for a delivery or a caesarean section.

Is there a video consultation?

Yes: the video consultation is listed in the fee schedule and booked on Doctolib. It suits questions that call for no examination and the presentation of results.

How do I cancel or move an appointment?

On Doctolib, from the confirmation you received by e-mail, or by telephone through the secretariat. Let the practice know as early as you can: a slot freed in time goes to another patient, and that matters even more when surgery has been scheduled.
